Eternal Life

"Eternal life is the phrase used in scripture to define the quality of life that our Eternal Father lives. Eternal life, or exaltation, is to live in God's presence and to continue as families (see D&C 131:1-4)." (Gospel Topics, Eternal Life).

John 3:14-15 says, "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 17:3 says, "And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."

Comparing the LDS definition of eternal life with the biblical one, you can see some differences:

- the LDS version is about the future. The biblical one is about the present.
- the LDS version is about attaining it when you reach a place (the highest level of the celestial kingdom. The biblical one is about attaining it in the place where you currently live (on Earth).
- the LDS version is about a quality of life (living life as a God). The biblical one is about knowledge and faith in God (as a resurrected human).
- the LDS version is a reward (for adhering to laws and ordinances). The biblical one is a gift (Romans 6:23).
